With the arrival of an all-new BMW 5 Series comes an all-new M5, and it’s downright impressive!

According to BMW, the latest M5 is the quickest and most technologically-advanced M5 to date, which is saying a lot considering that the performance-tuned German four-door has been, for the majority of its existence, the most formidable sports sedan on the market.

The important facts you need to know:

  1. Power is provided by BMW’s latest generation TwinPower Turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine, which has been tuned to produce 600 horsepower above 5,700 rpm and 553 pound-feet of torque from 1,800 rpm through 5,700 rpm.
  2. It is the first ever M car to have all-wheel drive. The M-specific xDrive all-wheel drive system sends most of the M5’s power to the rear wheels, giving some to the front only when a drop in traction is detected.
  3. At the press of a button, drivers can enter into a 2wd-mode that shuts off the all-wheel-drive system and send power only to the rear, allowing for some mighty drifts.
Shifting is done via new eight-speed M Steptronic transmission that allows the M5 to sprint from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in a supercar-like 3.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of up to189 mph (304 km/h).
  4. You guessed it — It’s the fastest M5 to date!
  5. Despite the the xDrive system adding extra mass, the car is lighter than its predecessor thanks to the use of a carbon fiber roof, a lightweight exhaust system, and other weight-saving measures.
  6. M compound brakes or optional M carbon ceramic brakes provide all necessary stopping power
  7. You have the choice of 19-inch wheels or optional 20-inch wheels.

How to tell the 2018 BMW M5 apart from the more plebeian 5 Series models? Look for the more aggressive front bumper with large air intakes, aluminum hood, more aerodynamic mirrors, and a four-tailpipe exhaust system.

The interior boasts a bevy of features, including an M-specific head-up display, sports seats and steering wheel, multiple driving modes and gesture control.

So, what do yo think about the new BMW M5, and what would you do for one?
