Pharrell Williams has made history by becoming the first man to star in a Chanel handbag campaign. Just when we thought he couldn’t get any cooler.
The American singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer and film producer — he’s done it all, hasn’t he? — is not new to word of high fashion (just look at the way he dresses…) and has already appeared in a short video by Karl Lagerfeld and even walked the Chanel runway.
You can now add modelling for the Gabrielle bag from the fashion house’s spring collection to his growing resume.
Williams stars alongside Kristen Stewart, Caroline de Maigret and Cara Delevingne in the campaign. In an interview with WWD, he stated:
“I was like a nerdy little black kid on a skateboard. So looking at high-end fashion was something that I really didn’t understand in the very beginning.
“And then I realised, slowly but surely, man, this is amazing. And although there’s mostly the perception that it’s for women, I just started to see, OK, as a man I can wear some of this.”
Is that the new fashion trend — men carrying handbags like the fairer gender? Is there even a problem with that?
