In what has to be one of the best feel good stories of the year, a generous customer gave his waiter a whopping $25,000 tip so that he could fix his rotten teeth.
Fred Boettcher, an attorney, is surely a multimillionaire because the $25,000 he gave to Brian Maixner is more than what millions of hard working adults in developed countries like the U.S. and Canada make a year.
Maixner always had a smile for his customers, despite having teeth so decayed they could ruin one’s appetite. Boettcher couldn’t bear his apparent suffering and wanted to help, telling KWCH:
“I took one look at this young man and knew he was something special. He carried himself with such kindness and confidence with a mouth that looked painful. I was struck by that.”
While eating at Doo-Dah Diner in Wichita, Kansas, with his family, he asked the restaurant’s owner, Timirie Shibley, if he could pay for his dental work, to which she said yes:
“He’s one of those employees you wish you had six of,’ she told today.com. His whole mission is to please people as quickly as possible and he laughs along the way. He’s a very hard worker.”
Maixner’s reaction was expected:
“This man doesn’t know me and this is something I could never afford to do for myself. It touched me so much that he cared.”
Boettcher’s generosity made both Maixner and Shibley cry a little before they got back to work. How does this story make you feel?
