15 Characteristics Of A Man’s Man – Become One

Are you a man’s man? Do you know one? Learn what it takes to be one.

Have you ever had a male friend you just couldn’t get enough of? Being around him puts you at ease, and despite the absence of any sort of sexual attraction, you can’t seem to pull yourself away from him.

You like his attention, and he likes yours. There have been occasions when you laughed and cried together, and days when all you did was eat potato chips and play video games.

He is unbelievably magnetic in every good way, but you can’t seem to explain why.

Well, my friend, the reason you felt this way might be because your were dealing with a Man’s Man.

While most guys would be content with just being a man, a select few exceed that lofty goal.

Men’s Men have all the good qualities traditionally associated with men, but take many of those qualities to the next level.

By highlighting 15 defining characteristics of this breed of men, this article aims to help you better understand how a Man’s Man differs from a regular man.

1. He Is Homosocial

Homosocial — not to be confused with ‘homosexual’ — is a term used to describe same-sex relationships that are not of a romantic or sexual nature. It is strongly tied to the concept of ‘bromance.’

Mens’s men are more popular and at ease with other men than with women. They relate better to other men than, and other men relate well to them.

Trusted by his fellow men, such a man seems to represent a man’s perspective and is not easily swayed by the influence of women.

2. He Is Honest

This is a man you feel safe to share your deepest secrets with. There is no need to monitor your words and behaviors around him like you would with your girlfriend / wife or “lesser” men.

Conversely, he is honest with you. Even though he knows the truth might hurt, he finds a way to let you know it.

3. He Is Loyal

Friends should be loyal — this is by no means a revelation — but many of us are unfortunate to have a dog of a friend (or friends) who wouldn’t hesitate to sleep with the girl you recently broke up with because getting laid matters more to him than anything else.

Rest assured that a Man’s man would never do such a thing. On the contrary, he’s the guy you can confide in, the guy you can leave alone with your girl knowing that nothing inappropriate will happen, and the guy you know won’t talk behind your back.

You would gladly do the same for him, because he is always there for you.

4. He Is Dependable

Despite the monumental shift in gender roles in recent decades, the need to be dependable hasn’t changed one bit.

Men’s men are the embodiment of dependability. They are the guys you go to when in need of help because, on top of being loyal, they follow through on their promise.

Did you disappear from his life when you found yourself a girlfriend, only to call him years later asking him to be a groomsman? Guess what? Being the good guy he is, he’ll likely say yes.

5. He Is A Protector

Like most guys, you probably pride yourself on being able to stand up for yourself, and the idea of needing someone to be your bodyguard is insulting. However, we all need someone who would go out of his way to lend a hand when shit hits the fan.

A Man’s Man will protect your character should it be attacked when you’re not around, and will have your back in situations where physical violence is a possibility, no matter how out-classed the two of you might be.

6. He Is Self-Sufficient

As American science-fiction author Robert A. Heinlein once said:

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

All quality men are by and large self-sufficient, but the Man’s Man takes this virtue to another level. He is the person most people go to when they need help with anything.

7. He Is Respected

Most men would rather have another man’s envy than his respect, but that’s not the case with a Man’s Man. His respect for you is deep and genuine, and he wants nothing more than for everyone in his circle to live long and prosper.

Likewise, his character is such that people respect him out of love and appreciation, and want the best for him.

8. He Is Non-Judgemental

The beauty of a Man’s Man is that he gives you a guilt-free space to vent your truest thoughts and feelings. You can be yourself around him.

Because he doesn’t judge your peculiar ways, he is someone you will likely turn to when in desperate need of support.

9. He Is Emphatic

A Man’s Man truly cares about you. He understands your pain, your joy and everything in between.

Such a man is present, attentive and respectful. He has a way of making you feel like you’re the only one in the room, even when that’s not the case.

10. He Is Classless

Not unless he has reason to be concerned about a person’s character, a Man’s Man avoids judging others based on their class or social standing.

Not the type to talk nonsense, he is just as comfortable rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous as he is with having a good time with blue-collar workers.

11. He Is Unpretentious

Regardless of his wealth or social status, this man doesn’t pretend to be someone else. He doesn’t attempt to impress others with qualities that he does not possess.

There is no compulsion to lie, nor a need to safeguard an image. He shows up fully and honestly.

12. He Is Open-Minded

Men’s Men accept things the way they are, and being the honest people they are, do not twist facts just so things align neatly with their preconceived notions.

They are likely to accept different points of view, especially those that are authentic and represent the truth.

13. He Is A True Friend

There are no perfect friends, but if you are fortunate enough to have a Man’s Man as a pal, know that you have the truest friend possible.

Here is someone who wants the best for you. He will always have your back, be authentic and honest with you, and accept you for who you are.

14. He Makes You A Better Person

This special man genuinely wants the best for you. He inspires you to be strong, allows you to make mistakes without judging, and supports and encourages you endlessly.

Because he see value in you, you can see it too.

15. He Is Impressive

All the aforementioned traits, when taken as a whole, make a man’s man a truly impressive human being.
