The Ferrari 488 GTB has evolved into something even more spectacular.
What do you get when apply the lessons learned from decades of successfully competing in the FIA’s World Endurance Championship to a darling of world class supercars? The Ferrari 488 Pista!
Pista in Italian means “track,” a fitting name for the hotter, track-focused version of the 488 GTB tasked with whipping the McLaren 720S.
Ferrari gave the 488 Pista its most powerful V8 ever, a 3.9L twin-turbocharged unit that cranks out 711 horsepower and 568 lb-ft. of torque, which is 50 more horsepower and 7 more lb-ft. than the 488 GTB’s V8. It is also 198 pounds (90 kg) lighter than the GTB, tipping the scale at just 2,822 pounds (1280 kg) dry.
This Italian can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in 2.85 seconds and to 124 mph (200 km/h) in just 7.6 seconds, before reaching a top speed of over 211 mph (340 km/h). That makes it 0.2 seconds quicker than the McLaren 720S to 62 mph.
Engineers improved downforce by 20 percent with a number of aerodynamic upgrades that includes an F1-inspired S-duct, modified front air intakes, a new rear diffuser, and a rear blown spoiler.
Drivers will also be able to take advantage of such Ferrari tech as Side-Slip Angle Control 6, E-Diff3, F1-Trac, magnetorheological suspension, and the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer (FDE), which automatically adjusts brake pressure on the calipers to help the driver make the most of the mid-engine supercar’s performance regardless of skill level.
Yes, the Ferrari 488 Pista is the very definition of a dream car. Do you want one?
