The environmental movement has resulted in one of the coolest and most incredible buildings you will ever see, one covered in evergreen trees and other plants.
Planned for the city of Lausanne, Switzerland, and called “La Tour Des Cedres” (“The Tower of Cedars”), the 36 storey (384 feet-tall) tower is not just one building but rather an entire apartment block. It’s set to be the first building in the world to be covered in evergreen trees, serving as a home to more than 100 trees, 6,000 shrubs and 18,000 other plants.
Not only are the plants expected to help contribute to a fresh, less CO2-poluted environment in the tower, but they will also provide protection against harsh winds, dust and noise pollution.
Probably best of all, The Tower of Cedars will be a sight to behold in a city made of concrete and glass. I mean, how often do you see a real “vertical forest” in a concrete jungle?
The building is designed by Italian architect Stefano Boeri, who is responsible for Milan’s incredible ‘Vertical Forest’, another green structure. The man clearly is one with nature…
In case you’re interested in getting one for yourself, the apartments range from one to five bedrooms and will surely make you stand out amongst your peers.
“Tree buildings” like The Tower of Cedars and Italy’s Vertical Forest may be the future of architecture in many developed countries. Do you want to see more of them? Would you live in one? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
