One of the most iconic performance Mustang nameplates has been reborn, and it packs more power and performance than ever. Meet the all-new, 2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang!
The new Shelby GT350 Mustang is powered by a naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V8 engine with a flat-plane crankshaft that produces more than 500 horsepower and over 400 lb-ft. (542 Nm) of torque. The powerplant is the most powerful naturally-aspirated engine Ford has ever made, packing more power than the previous’ GT350’s supercharged V8.
A light-weight six-speed manual gearbox and Torsen limited slip differential sends all that power to the rear wheels to deliver notably better acceleration and top speed than any of the track-tuned sports car’s predecessors, while a lowered suspension, a wider front track, Ford’s first-ever adaptive damper system (MagnaRide), and stiffer 19-inch wheels wrapped in bespoke Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires provide it with superior handling.

To keep its increased power under control, the Shelby GT350 features Brembo brakes with six-piston calipers clamping 394mm discs up front and four-piston calipers on 380mm rotors out back — the most track-credible brake system ever equipped on a Ford vehicle in terms of absolute stopping power, fade resistance and brake pedal feel.
On the outside, the performance-tuned Mustang is visually distinguished from the lesser Mustangs by widened aluminum front fenders, a lower front splitter, and a new aluminum hood that sits lower. Other modifications include a functional rear diffuser, a rear lip spoiler, four exhaust tips, and special body paint and graphics.
Its interior houses a track-focused instrument cluster, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, Recaro sport seats, and an integrated driver control system with five selectable modes that reconfigure the ABS, stability control, steering effort, traction control, throttle mapping, MagnaRide tuning, and exhaust system.
To prevent sun glare, there is less chrome trim and other shiny surfaces.
The new Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang is a well-thought-out performance-tuned sports car that will smoke the previous Shelby GT350 on the track. Its main rival — the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 — needs to be worried.
